Our Commitment

Our Sustainability Story

At our eco-retreat, sustainability isn’t just something we talk about – it’s the foundation of everything we do. As a small, family-run retreat, we’ve poured our hearts into creating a space that not only connects guests to the incredible natural beauty of Sri Lanka but also supports and uplifts our local community. Here’s how we’re making it happen:

Sri Lanka is a country of extraordinary beauty and biodiversity, but it faces significant challenges in preserving its natural and cultural heritage. As stewards of this land, we believe it’s our responsibility to care for the environment and support the local community to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

Caring for the Environment

Preserving Biodiversity: Over half of our property remains untouched forest, home to native and medicinal plants. We’ve taken small but meaningful steps to protect these ecosystems, like using wildlife-safe pest control and planting trees to restore the land.

Thoughtful Design: Our buildings blend into the natural landscape, using materials like fair-face brick and rocks sourced from the property itself. This approach helps minimize disruption to the land and respects the beauty of our surroundings.

Smart Resource Use: We work hard to reduce our environmental footprint. Renewable energy, rainwater harvesting systems, and organic farming are all part of our efforts to live lightly on the earth.

Sustainable Farming: Our on-site organic farm provides fresh, seasonal ingredients for our meals. It’s a simple way to reduce food miles and serve guests meals that are as fresh and local.

Empowering Our Community

Crafting with Local Hands: Every corner of our retreat reflects the hard work and creativity of local artisans. From the buildings to the handcrafted furniture, we collaborated with community members to bring our vision to life. Many of these talented individuals had limited opportunities to showcase their skills, and we’re proud to have supported them in contributing to this project. Their work is a testament to the potential and rich heritage of this region.

Preserving Culture: We’re committed to celebrating and preserving Sri Lanka’s traditions. Guests can take part in experiences like kithul sap harvesting, cinnamon quill crafting, and learning traditional cooking techniques, all led by members of the community who keep these practices alive.

Building for Tomorrow: While we couldn’t provide formal construction training, we encouraged local workers to use their skills and ideas to shape the retreat. Additionally, we’ve partnered with local experts to offer workshops in eco-tourism, hospitality, and sustainability practices, helping the community grow alongside us.

Creating Sustainable Prosperity

Local Sourcing: From fresh produce to handmade crafts, we prioritize working with local suppliers. It’s a simple way to keep the economic benefits of our retreat within the community and support small businesses.

Revenue for Growth: A significant portion of what we earn goes back into the community. Whether it’s conservation projects or skill-building programs, we’re committed to creating a positive cycle of growth and opportunity.

Year-Round Opportunities: With offerings like Ayurvedic wellness packages, guided nature tours, and seasonal activities, we’ve created consistent opportunities for local businesses and families to thrive year-round.
